As our merry little troupe passed through town after town in Mississippi they eventually scooted through a little village called New Albany. And it was here, about 20 minutes outside the tranquil little area that the Acura showed it's TRUE colors and decided it would unleash it's plan of revenge upon the Colleys! For the Acura was so hot with rage and fury that it blew it's own cooling system and shattered pieces of the transmission thus sending our family into the shoulder of the road (but fortunately into the shade of an overpass).
Now at this point in the story I'm getting tired of trying to think of interesting ways of relating this event as a "tale" so I'm just gonna cut to the chase and pics. So yeah, our freaking "reliable" car blew it's cooling system which caused the transmission system to break too leaving us stranded on the side of a highway in the middle of Nowhere, Mississippi. I was finally able to get a tow company to pick us up about an hour or two later to get back to Memphis.
Let me tell you something: I never want to go through that again. The first driver that picked us up said he had to take us back to the main shop so he could find out if they could take us all the way back to Memphis. Well we end up driving through some serious backwoods areas to get to this little place way out in the sticks. As we're riding along both Sharaze and me are thinking "They're going to take us to some horrible place and kill us. A new slasher movie will be made about it."
But we get there and the owner of the tow company says he'll take us back. I forget his name but it doesn't matter. In my mind it was Cooter. And I don't want to sound mean or whatever but he was as stereotypical "Cooter" as you can get. Torn Lynard Skynard shirt, strong dislike of "colored" folks or foreigners, and a wonderfully colorful vocabulary that he loved sharing with you on a wide variety of subjects. No topic was off-limits......
It was a looooong ride back to Memphis. We had to ride up in the cabin of the truck with him and Sharaze had to hold Autumn in her lap. He told her she had to hold her down low so that the cops wouldn't pull him over for having a baby not strapped into a seat. Not that it mattered since there weren't any seatbelts.
Anyway, he did get us safely back to Memphis where we dropped off the car, it finally got fixed, and now we've got a replacement car since I don't trust that hunk of metal anymore! So to end this story on a little happy note, here's some pics of us biding our time while we waited for the tow. If only we had known...............
