Growing Up: Awkward Questions Edition

We've known it was coming. I've told you all about how Autumn is in the "telling people stuff" phase right now. My favorite incident is still the time I cut my chin in aikido and Autumn said to Lainey: "mama has a boo boo on her chin. Papa did it." :P So I am still requesting that if Autumn says anything that sounds crazy, ask for clarification because there's likely an odd preschooler interpretation to the story, haha. Well, now we're kind of getting into Awkward Questions I Need to Answer but Don't Want To. The first is regarding Autumn's forthcoming little brother. She was eyeballing my tummy a couple days ago and asked, "Is my baby going to come out of your belly button?" I told her no but that we'd talk about it later. This morning, she said, "Mama, we need to talk about how my baby is going to come out." I mean, what the heck? We need to talk about?? I've pretty much decided what to tell her but it was waaaaay too early in the morning for the conversation so I laughed and told her we would.

Autumn and the baby doll she got for Valentine's Day. She said, "Mama! It's the Me doll!" The doll has been named Belle.

The second Awkward Question of the week is a little sadder. We've been cleaning out the pink room, which is eventually going to be Autumn's room. The upstairs looks like we just moved in which is a pain but it's for a good cause--I'm doing some serious organizing as we go. Anyway, she saw a picture from our wedding in there and asked, "who are these people with you?" :P The way she said it was funny, like a little belligerent. I said, "that's Uncle Donnie, Aunt Valerie, Lula, and mama's papa. You didn't get to meet him." She responded, "that's your daddy? Where is he?" We've talked about it before but she didn't seem to remember so I reminded her that he had died so we couldn't go see him. "Can we get in the car and go see him?" "No, baby girl, I'm afraid not. He's not here anymore...he's probably in heaven with Jesus." "Oh, okay." A couple days later, she showed Mike the picture and said, "that's mama's daddy."

Dual-wielding swords she found in the pink room. That's mama's girl! Also, I just realized how weird her shirt is. Minnie's feet are seriously huge.

And that's just this week! We've also had questions like "why does it get dark?" and "why does it rain?" but those aren't nearly as hard as the ones above and some of the ones that I am sure are coming!

Anyway, it's been a good week again! I'm having some troubles with my left hip. I hurt it snowboarding a couple years ago and I think being pregnant has made the old injury flare up. Other than that and the never-ending tiredness, I'm feeling good. Mike's had a better week or two, also. Things were a little rough work-wise there for a little while so, all in all, we're kind of in a much needed lull. Well. There's the organizing of the upstairs but that's something I've been able to work on slowly. Oh, I do have a couple pictures...here's baby Hudson! This is from our visit two weeks ago so I'm guessing that's he's totally different looking now! Autumn was really sweet with him. She was also really sweet with our friend Elyse's new baby Lianna. We met her on Friday. So many babies!

You know what is something I really hate doing with Autumn? Puzzles. I have no idea why. And I do them anyway. But I don't enjoy it. :D Mike got a dose of trying to figure out one of my least favorite of her puzzles...it's a disney princess one where there's, like, a hologram image. You know, the kind where when you turn it one way it's one scene and turn it the other way and it's another? Man. It gives me a headache.

And just because this is cute:

And that's it for today! Wish me luck as I navigate the "how is my baby going to get out, mama?"

We are definitely there with you on the tough questions too! :) As far as where the baby comes from, I was lucky enough to say "out of my tummy", since I had a c-section....but we have also struggled with the questions about Jason's dad:( Those are tough! The newest one I got this week was "Why does daddy sleep naked only in his underwear?" Doesn't he get cold! Ha!!! Kids!

That's one smart little lady you've got there! I'm SO excited about Baby Boy on the way!

I haven't had much experience in the awkward questions area, oddly enough. My kids would assume they were correct and share *that* information with me. E.G., Tasia was telling me the other day that she "growed" in my belly and then popped out "like TA-DA! Magical".

... then again, I have some seriously weird kids.

Oh, I feel your pain! I get "how will the baby come out" to "how did the baby get there." Yeah. And the not so awkward but make-me-positive-I-can't-homeschool questions like "why does the sun come up and down" and "if the earth is moving that fast, why don't we feel it?" Lots of science questions - thank goodness for the internet.
